Enrolment Ceremonies - Brownies

An enrolment ceremony about making new friends and working together!

All the girls waiting to be enrolled should sit on the west bank of the river; the already enrolled girls sit on the east bank.

Set Up: Create two separate river banks marked off with tape on the ground. There should be an expanse between the two just big enough to be bridged using all the paper boards.

Props: You need 1 paper or cardboard “board” for each new Spark and Brownie.

Narrator

Once upon a time, there lived a group of Sparks and Brownies on the east bank of a river.  They were always having fun, playing games, singing songs, helping others, and doing other neat Girl Guide activities.

But today, the normally happy group of girls looked sad.  Many of their Brownie friends had grown up and moved on to Guides, leaving only a small group of Sparks and Brownies to play together.  They missed their friends.

One day the Sparks and Brownies looked across the river and noticed a group of girls on the other side.  They had a great idea.

So all together, they shouted across the river:
Sparks and Brownies

We need Brownies,

Yes we do!

We need Brownies,

How ‘bout you?

Narrator The Brownie-aged girls on the other side were very excited, so they shouted back:
New Brownies

Let’s join in the fun!  Sparks and Brownies, here we come!

Narrator

The girls then jumped up and ran to the woods and found some wooden boards to build a bridge across the river.

*New Brownies jump up, each find one board, and start creating a bridge

But the bridge was not long enough to go all the way across the raging river, they couldn’t cross to the other side.
All the girls sat back down on the grass wondering what to do.

Suddenly the Sparks and Brownies had another idea. They shouted across the river again:

Sparks and Brownies

We need Sparks,

Yes we do!

We need Sparks,

How ‘bout you?

Narrator The Spark-aged girls across the river were very excited, so they shouted back:
New Sparks

Let’s join in the fun! Sparks and Brownies, here we come!

Narrator

All the New Sparks carefully got on the bridge and said their promise. They brought their wooden boards to the bridge and kept building, and building, until the bridge reached all the way to the other side of the river. Everyone cheered!  *New Sparks run off to find boards.

The girls then jumped up and ran to the forest to search for wood.

New Sparks I promise to share and be a friend.
Narrator

And as they crossed to the other side, they changed into Sparks!
*As girls step off the bridge, they receive their enrolment pins.

Then all the new Brownies got on the bridge, and they all made their Brownie promise.

New Brownies I promise to do my best,
To be true to myself, my beliefs, and Canada.
I will take action for a better world,
And respect the Brownie law.
Narrator

All the Sparks and Brownies were very excited to have so many new friends, and sat down together to play a game, when they looked across the river and saw two lonely-looking grownups. They had a great idea! They shouted across the river:

*As the girls step off the bridge, they receive their enrolment pins.

As the new Brownies crossed to the other side, they changed into Brownies!

Sparks and Brownies We need Leaders!
Yes we do!
We need Leaders!
How ‘bout you?
Narrator The adults were very excited and shouted back:
Leaders

Let’s join in the fun,

Sparks and Brownies,

Here we come!

Narrator

As the new leaders crossed the bridge, they reaffirmed the promise they may have made as Girl Guides long, long ago.

*New leaders say promise and receive enrolment pins.

And everyone was very happy as they started their Spark and Brownie adventure together.

*Everyone makes a circle. Sparks sing, “Sparks Jump Up”, Brownies sing, “We’re the Brownies”
