What We Offer
Girl Guides is an accepting all-female environment with diverse and exciting programs and activities that offer the chance to discover new interests, learn valuable leadership skills and make lasting friendships. Guiding gives girls the tools and resources they need to achieve greatness.
What We Do
In an all girl environment we meet in Units to explore girl’s interests and participate in our communities. Each branch of Guiding has specific programming and there are badges to recognize learning and accomplishments. Unit Guiders (leaders) provide activities and opportunities to camp, attend activities and events as well as build skills through Unit meetings. There are five branches of girl programming. There are broken down by age. To find out more, select one of the links below:
Sparks (ages 5 and 6)
Brownies (ages 7 and 8)
Guides (ages 9 to 11)
Pathfinders (ages 12 to 14)
Rangers (ages 15 to 17+)
What girls wear
Girl Guides is a uniformed organization and girls can choose items from a range of practical, stylish and reasonably priced uniform pieces. Click here to access the e-store. There are no physical store locations.
How we keep girls safe
We provide our Unit Guiders with training on how to manage risks and plan safe and fun activities. GGC also has a risk management document for our adult Members as well as forms for activity planning and approval. This is called Safe Guide. It has the requirements for everything from girl supervision ratios to health and first aid to food safety and clothing kit lists We also have our own Unit Guider training to orient an adult volunteer to Girl Guides, risk management and how to deliver program for girls.
First Aid training is also a requirement for many activities (find details in Safe Guide). We want to ensure that all members stay safe while having fun!
All Unit Guiders are required to have a valid Police Records Check and take mandatory GGC training. We carry out reference checks on potential adult Members and require applicants to sign and adhere to the GGC Code of Conduct.
For Unit Meeting our Members should follow the Safe Guide established supervision ratios:
- Sparks – Min. 2 adults (1:8 ratio)
- Brownies – Min. 2 adults (1:8 ratio)
- Guides – Min. 2 adults (1:15 ratio)
- Pathfinders – Min. 1 adult (1:15 ratio)
Parents are asked to complete a Girl Registration Form and Parent/Guardian Consent which gathers some very basic data that is recorded in the GGC membership database (iMIS). All the information provided on this form is stored securely and will be destroyed as per the nationally established guidelines, and protected against unlawful or unauthorized use. It is the policy of GGC that all personal information, e.g., names and contact details, will only be used for Guiding purposes and never be passed to a third party.
Provincial Council Members and Administrative Community Leaders are Members of Guiding responsible for the management of Adult Members.
